blog 16

From Hallie Chavis's blog, I realized that her blog is incredibly neat and professional, she gave me some really well thought out example questions that are open ended and lat yet I learned that is extremely helpful with any documentary, or video. Hallie gave me the idea of going back and formatting my blog post to make them neater and easier to read for Randy, and anyone else who stumbles across my page.

After reading Vaughn Edwards's blog, I have noticed the she uses very professional and a wide range of vocabulary words. This has opened my eyes to new ideas for my MSB project, since High Tech High is thought of a highly professional environment I will begin expanding my vocabulary when I question interviewee's or when I write up my photo essay. After looking at this blog, once again I am going to re-organize mine.

While looking at Mariyah Gillis's blog, you can already see she is a very creative person, and this inspires me to put my creative twist on things, while maintaing a professional blog. Mariyah's blog has a decent layout format and I enjoy the size of it. For my MSB project I am going to get formatting ideas from Mariyah and use creativity throughout my project.

possible MSB products

One idea I would like produce throughout my Media saves the beach project is a video/documentary, I would like to choose this option because I would feel comfortable interviewing people about the water pollution and all. A video I really enjoyed was Ariannah's because it was informational and entertaining. Some Ideas I feel I can take from this video would be:
- Interveiws with biology teachers or water specialist.
- Examples of me testing the water
- Music that has to do with water

Another altenative I would feel comfortable doing would be a photoessay, I enjoy photography and I love being the one behind the camera. I feel that I could also do well on the writing portion of this project, an example I have for a photo essay is one this page under Samantha Garrity's name(http://mediasavesthebeach.org/small/), i really enjoyed her photo essay because her picture stood out to be because she showed the sea life and their interaction with the beach(La Jolla Coves) something I feel I can take from this photo essay would be:
- Sea Animal life
- Evidence throughout my text portion
- High quality photos
- Professional lanuage throughout essay

honors novel essay

Throughout the cultural conflicts, and identity questions Precious doesn't allow her parents mistakes, affect her life in a controlling way. While most use their past as an excuse to limit their potential, Precious shows us that people do not always follow into their families footsteps whether negative or positive.

Sexually abused since the second grade Precious doesn't allow the fact that she has two kids by her own father get in the way of her dream life. Throughout the book Precious maintains a positive attitude with a hard time in her pre-GED classes battling with her dyslexia, most would have their fair share of emotional break downs but Precious really inspires me to stay strong no matter what I am going through. I saw Precious as a really strong character/role model for having two unwanted children at the age of sixteen, and one of them diagnosed with down syndrome at birth when Precious was only twelve.

Precious's parents chose to constantly verbally, emotionally, physically, and sexually abuse their own daughter. Precious survived through all of this by only wish she was a "pretty white girl, that no one would hurt because she is worth something in life" this showed me that people can go through hell and back and still survive if they manage a positive attitude or simply keep their eyes on the prize, Precious's prize was a good life and to have both of her children smart and loved. Throughout this book Precious had lots of support from her teacher, and her fellow classmates at "Each one teach one" (pre-GED classes)

The thing I really liked about the book was how supportive everyone at 'each one teach one' was to one another, they became really close friends and even hung out with each other outside of school, I also enjoyed how Precious didn't fall into her harsh life and let her lack of education bring her down. Precious thrived to learn new things and she loved writing poems and reading to her baby boy. Precious was occasionally confused as to why people lived on the streets, and let drugs take over there life. To me this means that anything can come from nothing into something if they don't let their past bring them down.

This book taught me a lot and I enjoyed every word, it was hard to put down and stop reading because of all the drama it has in it, the book is written as if Precious is telling you her life story. Throughout the book you can tell that her reading and writing improves and in the begging of the book she started out really illiterate and grew as a speaker and spoke as if she has been educated all of her life.

Precious is a great role model for all young girl that are going through a lot in life, this book taught me many life lessons and although my family has its share of bad history and reputations, but I will not allow myself to be labeled with their mistakes in life.

honors civil war paper blog #11

Thinking of the Civil War as the beginning of "modern" America is an arguable idea because people in the South never changed the way that they thought about blacks. Today I am constantly reminded of my race and my family members historic battle to get to where the black race is viewed today, yes, kids my age make racial jokes about my dark skin and snicker to each other about “the next Klan meeting” as if I can’t hear them. They think blacks or the Northerners didn’t work hard enough to get where America the black community is viewed today or maybe the children of former Southerners will never let history stay in the past. I am afraid when my generation starts teaching and raising the next generation these racial jokes will be taken seriously and the blacks will be treated like a second class citizen only because of the color of their skin, yet again.

The Civil War intended to put slavery to an end, but it did not put racism to an end of course racism still continues today, Although people who approved the confederate union or were members in a Klan were not that educated like in the text I analyzed dying for Dixie the characters in the text kept strong verbal opinions that made me believe (that they thought) that blacks were better off being slaves because they were just made that way and if it were any other way it would be ruining the White's potential to succeed. This makes me feel as if the Southerners were using the blacks as a scapegoat, because the blacks had just as much educational tools as the Southerners (if not less) but the blacks still tried to reach their full potential with the little amount of tools and rights they did have in 1955.

Modern America still has many of the same problems as pre-Civil War America, because the minority is still not treated fairly. "Racism is a danger which has plagued America throughout it's existence as a nation." Racism will never end people (Southerns) refuse to adapt to the way we fought for years ago (equality and freedom) since Obama has been in office racist people have been giving him a hard time with his responsibilities and promises he stated in his speeches while running for president. But when Bush was in office and he constantly made stupid choices and he was never harassed about his choices or future plans.

Reconstruction did not bring the South back into the US successfully, which meant that America couldn't really become "modern" or change or resolve the issues of Souths unwillingness to rejoin back with America and live in equality. We will never live in equality, we are easily persuaded persons and anyone can tell us their beliefs and can somehow alter ours. Some think it is cool to just shout out "white power" because its funny to people who don't take racism seriously, I honestly think America is not 'the land of the free nor the home of the brave', because we can barely control the citizens to accept each other so illegal immigrants are wasting their time climbing boarders or building underground tunnels to be "free".

Racism is found in America since colonial times and it continues today because we have too many immature people in the world who are not properly educated with our countries history or any other country, we speak of our country so highly but we secretly fear the Asian culture will one day become the most educated and will come to America and he the boss or managers of all major companies and Americans will then be looked down upon.

Even during Reconstruction, politicians tried to pass a Civil Rights bill, but it took almost 100 years for a Civil Rights bill to pass because America is all talk and no action we still makes plans to 'go green' and by the time we do (if we ever do) it will be years late. We the people need to start educating ourselves and stop procrastinating to make this a better nation, a better republic and reallybe the "land of the free and the home of the brave".

So I live today and ponder about the future that will soon lay in the hands of my generation, will racism ever subside? Will history repeat itself? I can’t tell you this just yet, but I can answer one question and that is if we will ever be an equal republic and the answer is no, because America is not ready for change. We get motivated and then loose all motivation to move forward then again there are the select few that still disagree with the majority and that person will then persuade a group of people and then before you know it history repeats itself.
