the roaring twenties honors assignment

The Roaring 20's ushered in many new changes for American society, I believe that the American society greatly changed in the 1920's because women finally started to gain their rights. Women started to be hired jobs in the 1920's, that's when the 19 amendment was passed in 1923. During the 20's, women started to become more independent and leave behind their former title as a "housewife" this was a dramatic change, in the year 1848 when the suffrage of women was presented to United States. It wasn't until the year of 1923 that the Nineteenth Amendment was granted, giving women the right to vote for president and propositions, something that changed in women was values with themselves and their lives in general. Before the war started, women lingered until a man came around and gave her his heart. But, after the war, approximately an entire generation of men died while fighting in the war, leaving women who refused to stay alone and not have any love or sexual pleasures in their lives alone. This is were flappers (prostitutes) came from, these are girls that smoked, drank, wore heavy make-up, and had various amounts sexual relations with other men (even married ones). Although the population of men increased over the years, there are still flappers (prostitutes) to this day.

Another significant discovery that was made in the 1920's was insulin, Diabetes was know as a "killer disease" in the 20's and was not treatable until two researchers from Canada, Frederick Grant Banting (1891 - 1941) and Charles Herbert Best (1899 - 1978) made the incredible discovery of insulin. This hormone is very appreciated to this day as diabetes is on the rise in children and adults in America, Insulin simply regulates the blood sugar in a humans body so they can maintain a normal and healthy lifestyle, while controlling their diets.

During the 1920's, many American people saw as "the good times." These times of greatness would not last forever, however. The stock market crash of 1929 would end "The Roaring Twenties". The rise of the Great Depression would create hardships for many families. This to me is one of the most important events that took place in the 20's, because this is when America change entirely.
